Each culture in the
Southwest Native American world has a very distinctive style of pottery
making.
Acoma
potters tend to create the thinnest
walled, porcelain-like pieces, while San Juan is known for their heavy-based
thick walled designs. The
Hopi
create painted, buff-colored pieces, while
Santa Clara
is best defined by their red- or black-ware pieces. Despite the wide
variety of styles, each culture that creates pottery has one thing in common
– a desire for excellence.
