Having celebrated
our 100th anniversary in 2006, Verkamp's Curios is the
oldest family owned and operated gift shop in all of America's National Parks, located literally steps from the Grand Canyon’s South
Rim. The building, which also served as the family residence from 1906
through the mid-1980's, is listed on the National Register of Historic
Places. Open year-round, our visitors have warmed
themselves by our elegant
limestone
fireplace in fall and winter, and enjoyed canyon views from the shade and
comfort of our front porch in summer.
Because we realize
not everyone can visit us in person, we welcome you to come in and look
around via our
Virtual Tour.
Once inside, you will see the 6’x9’
painting, “Evening Grand Canyon”, by renowned turn-of-the century artist
Louis Akin. You will experience the authentic atmosphere of the Southwest
trading post culture. You will see a 535 pound meteorite - a part of the
iron asteroid that hit Northern Arizona about 50,000 years ago and created
Meteor Crater. You will see mounted wildlife…. deer, elk, antelope, owl, and
buffalo.
And, of
course, you will discover the wide array of our gift items. It has been a
tradition at Verkamp’s to offer something for everyone, from affordable
souvenirs for vacationing families to high quality Native American arts and
crafts for the serious collector.
We have a long history of buying
directly from local Native American artists and regional traders,
hand-selecting only the finest pieces. We showcase one-of-a-kind Navajo
rugs, Hopi kachinas, Zuni fetishes, pottery and baskets from many tribes,
and the finest sterling silver and gold jewelry.
Because many of our items are
completely unique, we can only show you samples of different categories and
styles. When you find an item that interests you, please
contact
us, and we’ll be in touch with you as soon as possible.
We work with all of our guests on an individual basis to ensure complete
satisfaction with your purchase.
We
hope you enjoy your Verkamp’s on-line experience. And remember to come by
and see us when you come out to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon.
Meanwhile, if we can help you with anything else, please let us know.
