Plaiting is the actual style of weave used in making Hopi sifter baskets. These baskets may be produced on all three Mesas. They are most commonly used to sift seeds, grain, or cornmeal. Of the three types of Hopi basketry, it is the easiest to make - although "easy" is not truly accurate.
